April 2 Election….The Spring elections have come
and gone and we had mixed success with our supported candidates. Incumbent Tony
Evers was reelected for State Superintendent of Schools and for most of us that
was no surprise. The BIG race for Supreme Court Justice was way more
contentious. Democrats were supporting challenger Ed Fallone for the ten year
term. Electing Fallone would have changed the balance of the court to the
liberal judges and would have been a road block for the Walker agenda.
Unfortunately, incumbent Patience Roggensack retained her seat by outspending
Fallone by a 5 to 1 margin using out-of-state money from corporate interest
groups. Word on the block is corporations and big business bought another state
Supreme Court judge.
Dueholm Dinner….The Jefferson-LaFollette-Dueholm
Dinner that we hold annually with Polk County is shaping up to be something you
will not want to miss. I have been working to enlist the speakers for the dinner
and I can tell you there will be some real surprises. Jeff Peterson has been
working on the venue and has also hired a band to play some music for us during
dinner. This year the event will be held at the Milltown Community Center on
Saturday, May 18. We are working out the final details as I write this report
and will have tickets available sometime mid-month. Once we have them, we’ll
want everyone to purchase some and to help sell them as well. This is one of
our fundraisers and we can all help to make it a success.
April Meeting….Our April membership meeting will
be held next Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Our meeting location is the Whitetail
Wilderness Restaurant & Bar located approximately one mile north of the
village of Webster. Keep in mind we are now starting the meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Those wishing to come for dinner should arrive about 5:30 p.m. I have invited
St. Croix Tribal Police Chief Frank Taylor to attend this meeting. Frank has
told me he is planning to run against Sheriff Dean Roland. As you know, the
sheriff has had some issues lately and we stand a good chance of electing a
democratic sheriff next time. Please come out and enjoy the camaraderie.
